Escape to the winter sun in the Caribbean or the temperate deserts of Oman, immerse yourself in the festive atmosphere of Christmas shopping amid the glitz of Manhattan or the markets of Berlin, or savour the tranquillity of destinations like Athens or the Dominican Republic without the bustling crowds of peak season.

As November unfolds, Iceland lives up to its name with a growing prevalence of sub-zero temperatures. This season is ideal for exploring the ethereal world of ice caves, or more precisely, glacier caves, as they require safe freezing before exploration. The most easily accessible caves are found in the southern part of Iceland, especially on the fringes of the expansive Vatnajokull ice cap. The year-round marvel of Jokulsarlon glacial lagoon awaits here, and with the onset of early winter nights, the chances of witnessing the northern lights increase.

ORGANISATION AND STORAGE

Celebrate Dia de los Muertos, the lively Day of the Dead, during one of Mexico’s most vibrant annual events. Adorned with colourful ofrendas (altars), costumed parades, and candlelit cemetery vigils, the festivities take place around November 2, particularly in the central and southern regions of the country. While Michoacan state is renowned for its celebrations, Oaxaca offers a culturally rich setting to experience the event, complemented by a beautiful and less-developed coastline. By this time, the rainy season should have subsided, and temperatures are pleasantly warm.

November presents an opportune and more budget-friendly time to explore the Big Apple compared to the preceding and following months. Perfect for early Christmas shopping, the season also brings the possibility of catching autumn colours in Central Park, which linger longer due to Manhattan’s urban warmth. The first Sunday hosts the New York City Marathon, while the fourth Thursday marks Thanksgiving, celebrated with the iconic Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade featuring giant balloons.
